Abstract

This study compared the effects of corot extracts and commercial insecticide on insect pests and yield of lowland rice. Five (5) treatments namely: (T, Control (No spray), T2 - 30% corot tuber extract + 70% tap water, T3-30% corot leaves extract +70% tap water, T4-30% corot stem extract+70% tap water, and T5 commercial insecticide, with three (3) replications were used in the study.

Rice plants treated with commercial insecticide and 30% corot tuber extract had significantly lowered the number of larval insect pest (stemborer larvae) and flying insect pests (rice bugs and rice black bugs) and average number of unfilled grains due to insect feeding compared to the 30% corot leaves extract, 30% corot stem extract, and the untreated plants. Likewise, plants treated with commercial insecticide and 30% corot tuber extract had significantly higher insect pest mortality compared to the other treatments. However, commercial insecticide is more effective than 30% corot tuber extract. Furthermore, the use of commercial insecticide had significantly higher yield than the rest of the treatments. The other treatments have comparable results.
